been  slow takin pictures of this car.started work on it about a week after the trabbi was finished last year so figured it was time to drag it out for a progress report.
wive bought this car back in august 04 from a company in the states.idea was to have the chassis built out there to cut down on build time over here.sounded like a good idea if only it had worked out that way.engine and box was also fitted along with front and rear suspension.
no running boards and wings were fitted.

initial mock up proved interesting.
turned out that the company may make real good body,s but there a bunch of tossers when it comes down to chassis stuff.
the problems.first of getting it onto the tow truck at the docks.there was only an inch of clearance between the chassis crossmember and the floor at ride height.doooh.
the engine was fitted to far back so the dizzy woundnt fit.not only that but the engine was mounted on the piss looking front to back and also side to side.
rear axle was fitted with completly wrong pinion angle.so much so that i couldnt even wind out the triangulated 4 bars to get the right angle.
front coil overs were mounted at about 60 degrees and only had an inch of travel in them.
looking under the car the brake m/c was mounted to low and in the wrong place.as well as the cross members being to low they wernt even symetrical.
being the boss as well as the tea boy in the garage the decision was taken to cut it all out and start again.
so everything came of the chassis till all that was left were the chassis rails and the very front crossmember that supports part of the front suspension.

first thing befor i restarted the chassis was to sort out the seats.my wive being either  fussy or she enjoys giving me work decided that she wants the luxury of electric seats in her car.
fine thinks i but we also didnt want the seat belts to mount like in a normal car.mmm after a bit of searching i founnd that late model bmw convertable seats have an integral seat belt.
found a pair and had em sent here.well blow me down if they aint the biggest seats ive ever seen.not to mention how heavy they are.so heavy i couldnt lift one and resorted to dragging em down the garage.
did i mention big.yep to big to even mock em up in the car as i couldnt get them in.the joys of tiny old cars.
electric seats may be really good but strip em down to the frames and theres 4 motors inside each of em.
3 weeks later of pretty much every spare minute the seats are sorted.took two inches outa the width and 4 inches outa the height.new mounting brakets were added as well.lots of making bits up on the lathe to get the motors to all work properly again.
the reason behind doing the seats first is they bolt through the floor so positioning them gave me the starting point for the crossmembers.
crossmembers were made of 2x1 boxed steel trianglulated across.(photo,s to follow when body comes of again).brake pedal,m/c were relocated to a better possition.rear axle mounts were remade along with new engine/gearbox mounts.exhausts were routed as well as all brake lines / air lines/fuel line.stainless steel tank was notched to mount the fuel pump and hung at the rear of the chassis.
the front suspension now.acording to the manufacturers you couldnt use air suspension on this car as it would fit.
gonads i recon so by remaking the front A arms it now has air suspension.
